Before any work on the pages could get started, we needed to know who our characters were. Brett worked on a number of sketches from Mike's descriptions. Here's your chance to get a glimpse into Brett's sketchbook. We hope you enjoy it.

Mark, the hero of our story, had a few different looks before becoming the one you see in the story.

We had a little trouble coming up with a good costume for Mark. Here's a few we tried on.

Here is Mark's hero: Vigil. Vigil went through many different looks before we decided on the one he has in the book.

Here is where Brenda, Vigil's girlfriend and also a superheroine called Cherry Bomb, came from.

Here is Ann, Mark's friend and a city cop.

Here is the bad guy who is trying to kill Vigil, which opens the story. Interestingly, the look of this guy started as a possible look for Mark.

Steven Ward runs the Capers Guild, the superhero union that Mark joins.

Katie is a friend of Mark's. He meets her while at a Caper match. She is not all that she seems.

Just an interesting note, the senator who pops up on the tv now and again came from a realistic source - Senator Hatch of Utah. Hatch is not a personal favorite of Mike's, but he has the perfect look for the character. Look for his acting debut in the Pandora's Box movie.

Here we have Cobalt, a minor league Caper. He was on the brink of making it big when Mark broke on the scene. One concept had him looking like one of those no-name wrestlers from the 80s.

A villain we've taken to calling Fetish Lady, for what should be obvious reasons.
